The past months I travelled a few times to Paris, so now, after four years, it was time to visit London again. I know as a tourist you visit the touristic places like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and London Eye but there is so much more to see outside the centre of London. My friend and I spend the night at a friends’ home in Dalston, which is in East London. If you are staying in that neighborhood you should organise a picnic on a sunny sunday at London fields. Make sure you get your bread from Pavilion Bakery at Broadway Market and some flowers from the flower market at Columbia Road. At that road there is also a very nice shop called Nom Living with gorgeous ceramics. If you are looking for an extraordinary breakfast, lunch or diner, Little Duck The Picklery at Dalston Lane is a place I can recommend. The Picklery is a fermenting kitchen where they make seasonal ferments, pickles and home-made fermented drinks (and you have to like ginger, a lot).
Shoreditch is definitely an upcoming part of London with nice places to eat and shop. We had a drink at Barber and Parlour in Redchurch Street where you can sit all day with your laptop and even can get a new haircut. Make sure to have a drink before or after diner at Happiness Forgets at Hoxton square (and say hi to the handsome bartender from me). Also worth a visit with its enormous bar is Blues Kitchen, the house of bourbon, blues and barbeques.
If it’s cold and rainy outside a hot coffee is always very welcome, certainly at Grind. They have four sites in London with totally different interiors. We went to the fancy marble Royal Exchange Grind. Afterwards we went to Tate Modern where you have, beside art, also a nice view across the water. But if you want to see the city from above you have to make a free reservation at Sky Garden. If you like art, Barbican centre is also a place to check out, certainly the Barbican conservatory with more than 2000 species of plants and trees.
One of the highlights of London is definitely Sketch in Mayfair. Worldwide known for its incredible architecture and pink room. Sketch is a complex and unique site for food, drinks and music where you almost feel like Alice in Wonderland.
And finally there is also Soho where you should get a reservation at La Bodega Negra. This place is hot, in every meaning of the word. You go there to see and to be seen and after hearing the uptempo latino vibes you definitely want to go out.
